"Zehngut is concerned with capturing the "freshness" of nature in his work, and his statements about it powerfully reflect the drama and optimism he finds there."
– Janice Oresman, curator

Qualities of light and the atmosphere of space are often inspirational, whether circulating around New York City with its ever-changing skyline, or getting out into the countryside. Recording these qualities on paper has always been an important part of my work process with materials of choice being gouache, acrylic paint or oil paint sticks.

Back in the studio, the works on paper often become the basis for larger works on canvas or board, using oil or acrylic paint.
